You were never the problem.
Different Isn't Defective.
Maybe the answer isn't becoming better at fitting in. Maybe it's understanding why you believed you had to. No Misfit Shaming is a conversation about alcohol, identity, belonging, and the behaviors we use to escape the feeling that we don't fit.
What am I trying not to feel?
Understand the reason before you fight the behavior.
Build a life you don't constantly need to escape from.
Why This Exists
You don't have to hate who you were to change who you're becoming.
A lot of people spend years believing something is wrong with them because they don't seem to fit where everyone else appears to fit naturally. Some drink to take the edge off. Some numb out in other ways — overworking, people-pleasing, unhealthy relationships, isolation, constantly seeking approval. The goal here isn't shame. It's awareness, accountability, and connection. We're interested in one question above all others: why did this behavior become useful to you in the first place?
What we use to escape
Know what you're hiding from.
These aren't your flaws. They're behaviors that became useful when something else hurt. Understanding that is where change actually starts.
Their words. Their truth.
REAL PEOPLE. REAL SHAME. REAL RECOVERY.
"Alcohol didn't make me fit in. It just made me care less that I didn't. That's a very different thing."
"I wasn't trying to get drunk. I was trying to become the version of myself that people seemed to actually like."
"Nobody told me I could just be the weird one and that would be enough. This place is the first time I heard that."
